Update Warcraft III 1.21x to 1.24b

WARNING!
1. Please Proceed at Your Own Risk
2. Please SAVE a copy of your Warcraft III folder and rename it to Warcraft III.bak (for Precaution)
3. This guide is only for those who copied and pasted their Warcraft III from somewhere else
4. You're recommended to use Version Switcher (available to download at Garena Client) if this technique doesn't work. The guide link can be found at the bottom of this post.

Many have wonder why they receive an error : "InstallPath" thingy.

I'm sure you copied your version of Warcraft III from somewhere and pasted it in your PC.

Well, you can't update your Warcraft III if you did that simply because your PC doesn't recognize the path which is why the 'InstallPath' error occur. You'll need to tweak something before you're able to do so.

Step 1 : Download the Patch
When you click this link, you'll get FILE NOT FOUND. Don't worry, just click it at the URL and press ENTER again and wait till a download message pops out. it should take less than 20minutes to finish downloading it.

Step 2 :
If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, type "run" on the search bar and select the first result. If you're using XP, just find the ''Run".

Step 3 : Type "regedit" as shown in the Figure below


Step 4 :
Registry Editor will open. Follow the following commands in order and you'll be able to find them:

• Double click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
• Double click on Software
• Double click on Blizzard Entertainment
• Double click on Warcraft III

On the right panel , you'll see only (Default) string.
Right click on any empty space on the right panel and You'll see New then select Binary Value.
Rename it to InstallPath

*IMPORTANT*

• Dont close your Registry Editor!
• The next thing you need to do is to copy the directory to your Warcraft III folder.

After copying, go back to Registry Editor and double click InstallPath, paste it at the empty space.

In the registry editor, under the Warcraft III, you'll see String folder. Double click it and do the same thing there.

Close it and voila, you're done with tweaking the directory to install.

Should look something like this in both Warcraft III and String :

Step 5: Run your updater and go into Frozen Throne.exe to see if it's version 1.2.4.xx.xxx!

Precaution

• Just in case if it doesn't work, try deleting the folder and replace with the one you have backed up.
• Delete the InstallPath in both Warcraft III and String (in Registry Editor)
• Do not delete the backup version of 1.2.1x just in case you want to play with your friends that didn't update their Warcraft III.
• The 1.24b version doesn't allow you to play dotA 6.61c and below. Not so sure about other TD maps.

Windows 7

Finally upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7. However it's an evaluation copy. I'll update it when Windows 7 is officially released.

Quick Update

Have been searching for songs these few days. One thing I'm not really sure is that is it uploading songs and enable people to download it for free even legal? Lol. Just don't understand the concept there.

And hey, new semester means new life right? Some people just can't get over with the past. Haha, it's just like changing clothes, but still the same body wears the new clothes. That's what life's all about. People don't realize their mistakes; but people that know their mistakes can't just forget it like that. There's this thing called 'stint'.

I'm expecting good lecturers this semester. Can't comment anything yet. Programming's fun but tired because there's some engineering student who does not know programming yet. Really can't blame them though. Argh! There's this class called Mobile Computing. Was really looking forward to this subject when I looked at the course structure; but it turns out crappy. The lecturer kept on repeating the same thing for 2 classes.

Hey! New sem means new friends right? All of my old friends still hang around me. There are quite a number of new coursemates. But there are some very; and I mean really very show off. Those "Juniors" really thought they have what it takes to be a great student huh? Let's see :)

This sem's gonna be really challenging though. Only 7 weeks to study. Yay! I'm hving 1 week holiday on Hari Raya. Really hope to go out with those 'bitches'. Haha!
