Be Nice , Be Prepared

Chinese New Year is coming. All of you should be happy about it. This year is the year of rat , which is my mom Chinese horoscope. This year is the year of Earth Rat . Well , not all of the Chinese Horoscope will be in luck . Mostly us , the Metal Horse ( 1990 ) will face "tai shui " which means a very little bad luck. Those who believe can proceed to the temple and pray so that we can avoid it.

Chinese New Year means a lot to some people. Some people will think that this is the time for a family reunion. Perhaps everyone think that way. We will have reunion dinner ( tuan yuan fan ) the last day of the year ( which means the day before New Year ) . Most of the family will be out for dinner ( modern style ) and some of the family will have homemade dinner ( classic style ) . I actually prefer the classic style because the modern style actually need to wait and pay for high price. Besides that , NO PARKING and TABLE RESERVATION is needed. Sometimes the food prepared will not be as good as normal day cause the chef and situation inside the kitchen will be upsy turvy. Imagine how rush the food they're preparing.

Why Mandarin Oranges are used as gifts when people visit you and when you visit people? The answer is Mandarin Orange in Cantonese is "kam" which means gold. So it is good for us to give people mandarin oranges when we visit them because it will bring prosperous and good luck to the family. Normally the amount of mandarin oranges we give is 8 because 8 in Chinese is "fa" or "ba" which means Wealth .
